Dr Anke Nguyen

Dr Anke Nguyen is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist who subspecialises in bowel disorders. She combines private practice with Senior Medical Specialist positions at Eastern Health and Austin Health. Anke completed an Honours degree in Medical Science from the University of Sydney before graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine from Deakin University in 2012. Anke undertook her Physician training at St Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne and advanced Gastroenterology training at other major metropolitan centres including The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Monash Health. Anke then completed a 1.5-year research fellowship at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany (2022-2023), and a PhD in inflammatory bowel disease through Monash University (2019-2023).
Anke is skilled in performing intestinal ultrasound, a non-invasive method of diagnosing inflammation in the bowel, following training at Alfred Health and in Berlin.
Anke welcomes referrals on all aspects of Gastroenterology including:
performing gastroscopy and/or colonoscopy
positive national bowel cancer screening program results, rectal or other gastrointestinal bleeding
liver function derangement, liver imaging abnormalities, fatty liver or other established liver diseases
inflammatory bowel disease, diagnosis and management
iron deficiency evaluation
gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, diagnosis and management
evaluation of abdominal symptoms such as pain, bloating, nausea and altered bowel habits
irritable bowel syndrome, diagnosis and management
coeliac disease, diagnosis and management
Anke has a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease and performing endoscopy. She also has extensive experience in managing other gastrointestinal disorders including irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease, iron deficiency and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and liver diseases.
